Before the acres · Week one, day 1

Start before the acres

You can start homesteading before you own land. Start with one food skill, one repair skill, and one small growing experiment. Learn a meal your family wants to cook again. Practice a simple repair with someone who knows how. Try growing something suited to the space and light you have. Keep a notebook of what worked and what you would change. The point is to build skills your family can carry into the next place. Save this for your first month.

Choose a small starting point

Write down one thing your household wants to learn. Make the first attempt small enough to finish with the space, time, and equipment you already have.

Learn together

Ask a willing relative or friend to teach a skill they know. Record what you learn in your own words and ask before sharing their story or photographs.

Keep the next step visible

Note what worked, what was difficult, and what you want to try again. A notebook or a simple shared document can do the job.

Try this together

Write down one action, the person who wants to own it, and a time to revisit what you learned.
