Separate a growing-project wish list from a purchase list
A wish list is not a purchase list.
Make the three columns
Start with a sheet of paper, an existing notebook, or a file your household can find. Label three columns Have, Need to verify, and Optional. Put owned items in the first column only after checking that they are available and suitable for the proposed task. The point is a clearer decision, not a perfectly styled inventory.
Attach a question to each item
In the middle column, record a specific unknown: what the project is meant to teach, where it would go, or what instructions would apply. An attractive product can stay optional while those questions are open. Write the reason beside an item rather than letting a saved shopping link become a decision.
Keep the budget honest
Leave cost fields empty until you have a specific item, quantity, and current quote. Record the date and any delivery or recurring costs you find. Do not treat an affiliate suggestion as a required purchase. Compare an owned-item option, a borrowed option where appropriate, and doing the investigation before buying anything.
Choose one next check
Choose one question you can investigate next and leave the rest visible. This worksheet can organize a conversation even if the eventual choice is to pause the project. No yield, savings, or suitability result follows from completing the page.
Bring this checklist
- List available items honestly.
- Give each proposed purchase a purpose.
- Date any current quote.
- Choose one question before buying.
Optional planning supplies
Start with paper, a pencil, and anything you already own. A notebook or binder can help keep observations, source links, and household project questions together.
