Count what is available, not what is pictured
Count what is actually available before a picture becomes a shopping list.
Make three availability columns
Use Owned, Permission needed, and Unverified. Record a small set of items and where the information came from. Leave quantities unknown if you have not checked them. The page should distinguish evidence gaps from actual missing supplies.
Keep borrowing conditional
An item that belongs to another person stays in the permission column until they agree to the request. Record terms only after discussion. Availability does not mean the item is suitable for the proposed task; relevant instructions and condition questions remain separate.
Check the supposed gap
Before adding a product to a list, ask whether the problem is a missing location note, an unanswered request, or a genuinely unavailable item. Keep each possibility open until checked. Do not invent inventory totals or savings to make the worksheet look complete.
Use the list for a decision
Choose one question that affects the next step. Ask about permission, find a relevant instruction, or clarify a location before expanding the inventory. Use existing paper or a shared file. This is an organizational aid, not a recommendation to purchase a particular tool.
Bring this checklist
- Name the item or question.
- Separate ownership, permission and suitability.
- Keep relevant source/date and unresolved questions.
- Ask for agreement before changing a shared arrangement.
Optional planning supplies
Start with paper, a pencil, and anything you already own. A notebook or binder can help keep observations, source links, and household project questions together.
