Read the exact instructions before calling an item ready

Before calling a shared item ready, find the instructions for the exact item and the task you are considering.

Identify the exact item

Record the model or other useful identifier and the task under consideration. Similar-looking items can have different instructions. Keep ownership, permission, and availability separate from any question about suitability. A familiar appearance is not an answer.

Locate the original source

Find the relevant manufacturer instructions or other appropriate source for the exact question. Keep its location and date with the item record. Preserve its scope rather than relying on a context-free screenshot or an informal summary.

Leave condition questions open

Write what cannot be established from the information available. This brief does not diagnose faults, certify readiness, or provide inspection and repair steps. Ask an appropriate qualified source when the decision requires it, and record what that answer actually addressed.

Choose one clarification

Name the answer that would change the next decision. Keep the item undecided while relevant questions remain unresolved. A notebook you already use can hold the source record. No purchase or operating decision follows simply from completing the page.

Optional planning supplies

Start with paper, a pencil, and anything you already own. A notebook or binder can help keep observations, source links, and household project questions together.
